G.Rag y los Hermanos Patchekos // Mediterranean Caribbean Trash Folk Space Arkestra
The group was founded at the end of 1999. Artistically idiosyncratic, influenced by the DIY ethos of punk bands or 90s hardcore bands. At some point, they had enough of that or not and wanted to start something calmer but still cool. From this, a very own sound developed. For years now, the Hermanos Patchekos have been oscillating between swing, cumbia, folk, Latin, their punk influences, and lo-fi orchestra.
They have released ten studio albums on Gutfeeling Records, the latest due in November 2023. And they have even made film music. Three soundtrack albums for "München 7" (including a nomination for the Grimme Award).
The actual machine of the Hermanos Patchekos consists of two percussionists who don't really play their drums in the conventional sense: one conga player and a drum kit assembled from plastic boxes and sheet metal. The whole thing clatters very southern. Added to this are the Patcheko brass section (3 trumpets, 1 clarinet + baritone saxophone), 3 guitars, 1 crooner, double bass, accordion, kalimba, percussion.
Depending on the mood, kind of a Mediterranean Arkestra. And absolutely hypnotic.
