"Something More" was written at the time the band toured New York City, USA, during 2023 and presented live their latest single "Conceptualize". The song draws influence from the fast-paced life of the city and the unavoidable relationship between content and perception. It follows a fast tempo, with angular guitars inspired by the type of rock/post-punk you hear from Brixton to Bushwick. It’s jangly (post-)punk. It screams Manchester and Dublin. It crosses the past tenses of the genre with its present notions. In that forged path, it offers a reflection on polarization, identity, growing up. In the end, we all dance to the sound of that infectious chorus. We’re all looking for “Something More”.
Grand Sun is a happy accident: part intentional exercise, part catharsis. Their shows are urgent and electric. Their music is hinged on themes of existentialism and whimsy and three years after their last record - Sal y Amore - the band has changed. In their latest singles, the Lisbon-based band sees itself riding a post-punk wave, where the gothic and the dreamy side of bands like Echo & the Bunnymen, The Chameleons and Cocteau Twins influence them, as well as modern bands like THUS LOVE and shame revealing a new identity for their rock’n’roll. More creative, more punk, no less (somewhat) naïve, no less (very) youthful. Now, with “Something More”, their latest single, they showcase their newfound maturity. They are in search of something extra. And they’ve found it.
