From humble beginnings, growing up in a little town called Tulare in California, James Abbott got his first guitar and amp at the age of 16. Wanting to be solely a guitarist at the start, he eventually learned that there is more to music than just flashy riffs and shredding licks. While being kicked out of a former high school metal band for getting his guitar taken away from his parents for getting bad grades, James was finding himself inspired by a vast array of more styles including progressive rock, alternative, shoegaze, indie rock and post hardcore. Tying all of these inspirations was the tried and true singer-songwriter genre. This complex smorgasbord of influences combined with his own personal life experiences eventually led to the inevitable birth of Grand Theft Artery.
