Indie folk-rock act Grander Canyon is brothers <a href="spotify:artist:6Qp0HAWMIIO7sQDONCrAKV" data-name="Jake Roche">Jake Roche</a> (Vocals, Guitars) and Dan Roche (Drums, percussion). Jake and Dan grew up on a small pond down a dirt road in Maine, where they played music together as kids. After Jake left the guitar-rock band <a href="spotify:artist:1eu8Bi87yGRitUE7QFbyJY" data-name="Jeremiah Freed">Jeremiah Freed</a> (signed to Universal Republic Records in 2001) in 2004, he linked up with Dan for his first solo gigs.

Music was always playing in the house, and both boys both took piano lessons as soon as they could sit at a piano bench. Jake switched from the piano to the guitar at the age of 12, and his band <a href="spotify:artist:1eu8Bi87yGRitUE7QFbyJY" data-name="Jeremiah Freed">Jeremiah Freed</a> was headlining bars and ski resorts in Maine while still in high school. He later founded the 3-piece psychedelic-grunge power trio <a href="spotify:artist:7A63HeAs5FsrhAsTy1dQ3x" data-name="Lit On The Flash">Lit On The Flash</a>.
Grander Canyon's debut album was recorded with no click track, with co-producer Dan Capaldi (<a href="spotify:artist:6hViLHSRqF45YrjTjjdTX6" data-name="Seepeoples">Seepeoples</a>, Sea Level) building foundations of percussion and bass after the fact for many of the tracks to accompany Jake's original guitar and vocals. Dan's monicker Sea Level is credited with arrangements for the album, which included violin from Meagan Sabine and keyboards/pianos from Tyler Quist. Jake's partner Kasey Cover designed the eye-catching album artwork.
