gribbles is Graham Thorpe, a 50-something amateur musician from the UK.
Like many, he was in a few bands in his youth. Playing local gigs and getting a small following. Then, again like many, life took over and whilst still keeping his hand in, making music was put on the back burner.
In the late 1990s, a collaboration with an old friend, Dan Doughty, under the name Aztechnology started to yield some interesting electronica and a few live improvisational recordings and gigs. Around this time, gribbles put together a Skint/big beat inspired sample mashup album, <a href="spotify:album:7ypMBYUZv5ayi8s10zfJMQ" data-name="Version 0.1beta">Version 0.1beta</a>, from which <a href="spotify:track:3RPyhoiaX7hpaHRZSENa7x" data-name="Raygun">Raygun</a> gained some interest with it's sampling of an American President threatening to bomb Russia...
Soon after, the Aztechnology collaboration blossomed into <a href="spotify:artist:2wuAhbqpa7opJopRzIaLbb" data-name="quiddity">quiddity</a>, and produced two albums and 8 single releases. Quiddity continues, but the release pace has slowed down.
Which brings us to gribbles' solo output. A mix of ambient, synthwave, electronica and EDM, gribbles has been quoted as 'just wanting to write a decent tune. If other folk like it, then that's just wonderful.' His music is starting to gain some attention, and whilst he'll keep on releasing tunes as they're done there are also plans for an album, more quiddity activity and curation of live events in the coming year.
