Based in Sydney Australia, Grids & Dots is the melodic noise project of visual designers Daniel Handaru and Carmen Minikus, with Pat Hisshion on drums. Trying to capture the sound of their busy inner-city lives with snippets of melody and romance, principal songwriter Daniel is trying to find visual smidgens of his life in a jumble of fruit-salad poetry and quirky observations about the everyday. Influenced by both 80s synth-pop sense of harmonies, detuned guitars and the noise drenched shoegaze bands of the later decade, Grids & Dots try to balance melody with a reverb-saturated impressionistic sense of the cities they live in, by pushing the boundaries of indie pop with an experimental fringe.
"Noted as purveyors of heart-wrenching indie tunes in the vein of icons like Yo La Tengo, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and even Australia’s The Go-Betweens or My Friend The Cholate Cake, there’s nothing that Grids & Dots can’t do."
- Tyler Jenke, Tonedeaf
"Sydney trio Grids & Dots make the kind of melodic shoegaze that has a lush, dreamy warmth to it while remaining dynamic and exciting, never getting lost down a rabbit hole of reverb."
- Alex Gallagher, Musicfeeds
"For fans of dream-pop acts like Beach House and Real Estate, Grids & Dots is certain to scratch a similar itch. There’s just something comforting and warm about their sound, like watching a summer sunset."
- Elliott Simpson, Louder than War UK
