Aided by an otherworldly voice that defies gender binaries, the self-described “Northwest
princesa con Cubana appeal” lurks the experimental outskirts of hip-hop, spitting bars in
Spanglish over swinging Latin horns and writing lyrics packed with lush, gothic, and surrealistic
imagery.
It took time for the Pacific Northwest’s insect queen to reign supreme; the metamorphosis that
began in 2012 with omnichord videos posted to YouTube and early performances as Aeon Fux
lead to a full length debut in 2016, the brujeria-and-psychedelia-laced Black Trash/White House.
Building on a strong local live following, the single “Bye Bich” was released earlier this year with
a warning that the dark, powerful “Dark Meat Remix” diss wasn’t aimed at Bhad Bhabie, but
