Forming in June of 1999, the Australia-based Guernica began with vocalist Mikael Hines, guitarist Jason Hodge, bassist <a href="spotify:artist:7i0kVc14dFR0kw25v4pEiL">Kosta</a>, and drummer Sam Spurgeon. Guernica released a self-titled single in 2000, but it wasn't until the band won a contest to record unsigned artists in December of 2001 that they gained some national press. They flew to Sydney to record Pins and Needles that month, along with a few more songs..
