A charismatic figure at the forefront of Scottish indie-pop, Hamish Hawk is an Edinburgh-based songwriter and frontman of the New Outfit. Deft lyricism, irresistible melodies, and an emotional range that sets him apart from his contemporaries, Hawk shapeshifts effortlessly from pop songster to lilting crooner; from masterful storyteller to wild-eyed lunatic and back again, often within the confines of a single song.
Following the cult success of ‘From Zero to One’ in 2018, Hawk returned the following year on the offbeat, offering listeners an 8-track EP of piano-driven ballads, titled 'Laziest River’. Where ‘From Zero to One’ showcased Hawk’s lyrical dexterity against a shimmering indie-pop backdrop, the soft piano, bass and drums of ‘Laziest River’ provided a softer glow, allowing Hawk’s signature wit, charm and sensitivity to shine.
Hawk promises two new releases in 2020, each boasting a new and exciting aspect of his songcraft.
Hawk was nominated for a Scottish Alternative Music Award (SAMA) for Best Acoustic Act in 2018. He has performed in session for BBC Radio 6 Music (Marc Riley) and BBC Radio Scotland (Vic Galloway). Hawk has toured the UK and Europe extensively, and has played in support of acts as wide-ranging as The Divine Comedy, King Creosote, Charlie Cunningham, Evan Dando (The Lemonheads), This is the Kit and Idlewild.
