Hannah Tolf creates in an intersection of contrasting expressions. She is interested in the encounters between people and art. It is where the longing to establish rooms for reliance is born, rooms where we can leave some of ourselves with each other, just to rest and exist that way. She is using the intuitive and free expression in music, where structures can be set but the proceedings varied and exploitative. Her inspiration comes from a broad spectrum of genres and music traditions, where the free and revolting energy in jazz is ingenuously mixed with influences from afro-cuban music, broken Americana, soul and experimental pop and rock. Vocals and instruments are treated, electronically as well as acoustically to create deep contrasts and colours in the singular and hybrid soundscape of Hannah Tolf’s artistic vision.
