While California-born and raised, Hans has solidified himself within UK Garage scene while continually stretching his rhythmically intricate sound with a constantly fresh blend of drum and bass, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B.
What started with hearing UKG for the first time while studying jazz drumming in New Orleans turned into a deep catalog of music, starting with the self-released “Ghetto Strut” and continuing with tracks picked up by the genre’s best record labels, including UK-based Kiwi Rekords, Local Action, Garage Shared, Wub Club and the LA-based Night Bass Records and In/Rotation (Insomniac Records). His unique West Coast perspective on the UKG sound earned him the deep respect and notable collaborations with British iconic artists Sammy Virji (with whom he recently toured the United States) and DJ Q and allowed him to be the first American UKG artist to release on Night Bass Records, with his EPs Lumen and Breathe and collab with label owner AC Slater.
His most recent release Bluewerks Vol. 17: SLICE – a collaboration between jazz-focused Blue Note Records and electronic pioneer Astralwerks – opens up Hans’ musical territory with upbeat, dance-worthy percussion, jubilant synth harmonies, and iconic vocals. Regardless of the genre, his subtle touches and innovative sound design put Hans in a lane of his own.
