Back in 1986, singer Chris Donovan and keyboarder Tom Seth started their first band in Gerra Gambarogno, a little parish situated near the beautiful Lago Maggiore on the south side of the Swiss Alps.
In summer 2003, they created the band Haploid. Between fall 2007 and spring 2008 the band recorded five singles for their EP “Stone” with engineers Bernie Staub at Avalon Music Studio (Berg, Switzerland), and Dom Torche and Betrand Siffert at Relief Studio (Belfaux, Switzerland). Following a tragic event in spring 2011 the band de facto dissolved itself.
In July 2024, Tom and Chris re-edited, re-mixed and re-mastered the original songs from their first album with the help of sound engineer Niccolò Caldarini and mastering specialist Alberto Cutolo at Massive Arts Studio in Milan. In June 2025, Tom and Chris recorded three new singles at Massive Arts Studios.
Inspired by a wide range of music from John Adams to Pink Floyd, from Ligeti to Blackfield, from Tori Amos to Radiohead, Haploid has the ambition to create songs that are like allegorical movies, like aural landscapes: dreams of passion, love, fear, deception, or madness painted with the achromatic colours of oblivion ...
