Hari Vasan is a singer-songwriter from DC who mixes powerful vocals with intricate and complex guitar riffs, creating an ensemble of songs that range from hard rock to folk ballads. In 2007, Hari uploaded two YouTube cover videos that received 18,000 and 11,000 views, respectively. He has been featured in a number of DC based festivals and events including Smithsonian Music on the Mall, Takoma Park Folk Festival, Art All Night in Capitol Hill, the Intersections Festival, and the Launch Music Conference. He was also part of "Be(com)ing Desi in America," a show that was co-arranged by the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, where he opened for Aparna Nancherla and Ashok Kondabalu of Das Racist. He released his debut EP last April and performed his release show to a full house at Bossa in Adams Morgan, DC, last June. In order to raise funds for his album, he started a PledgeMusic fundraiser that reached 170% of the goal within weeks. In 2017, he was a finalist in the Cherry Blossom Sing to Spring Competition, and his song “Silence Comes Easy” was awarded Silver in the Rock/Alternative Category of the Mid Atlantic Song Contest.
