Hailing from the same ‘New Yorkshire’ wave as Arctic Monkeys, Milburn, and The Long Blondes, Harrisons were a guitar-driven four-piece from Hillsborough, Sheffield. Formed in 2003—Jubby Taylor (vocals/guitar), Ben Stanton (guitar), Ashley Birch (bass), and Mark White (drums)—they quickly became a staple of the city’s thriving scene.

Their raw sound and legendary shows at Manchester’s Akoustik Anarkhy nights led to a deal with Melodic Records. Debut single ‘Wishing Well’ earned Zane Lowe’s MTV2 Video of the Week. Follow-up ‘Blue Note’, dubbed “the England World Cup anthem that never was,” featured a music video homage to cult class film Kes.

‘Monday’s Arms’ proved their knack for bass-driven dancefloor bangers, while political anthem ‘Dear Constable’ broke into the UK physical singles Top 40. Sessions for BBC 6 Music, Radio 1, and XFM followed, alongside packed gigs across the UK, Europe, SXSW, and summer festivals.

Their only album, produced by Hugh Jones, was released in 2008—mere months after the band had split. Dig into this overlooked gem of the 2000s indie era—and check the links for demos and old photos.
