In the year of Our Lord 1996, a band of rockers sprang forth from the green and pleasant land of Great Britain. They were known as Heave, and their maiden album, Scaramanga, was released through the good graces of Radar Records.
Among this merry troupe were David Titlow, possessing a voice and guitar skills that were indeed a thing of beauty; Mew, with dulcet tones and a mastery of synths and organ that were the envy of all; Simon Dye, whose fingers danced across the guitar strings like a butterfly on a summer's day; Mark Shaw, supplying bass lines that kept the rhythm pulsing; and Jon Edwards, whose drumming was the beating heart of the band. Together, they wove a tapestry of heavy rock and electronica that was sure to delight the ear.
The album's production was overseen by Mr Bryce Goggin, a master of the craft who had worked his magic with the likes of Pavement, Sebadoh, and the Ramones. Under his expert guidance, Heave created a sound that was both unique and pleasing to the discerning listener, cementing their place in the annals of alternative rock history.
Alas, Heave's reign was brief, and they soon disbanded. But not without leaving a mark, for Mew went on to join Elastica, another band of note in the annals of British music. We salute Heave for their contribution to the rich tapestry of alternative rock, and can but wonder what might have been, had they continued to grace the world with their melodious tunes.
