Heaven the Dude

Heaven the Dude is an ever-evolving music project led by Lucas Gorham. Named as an homage to one of his favorite rappers and to his Houston roots, the producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and DJ first began playing bass in Texas, where he was born. Since then, Gorham has undergone a number of creative transitions and mind-altering experiences— first, as the lap steel guitar-slinging leader of the now-defunct psychedelic soul rock outfit Grandfather Child, which released one album in 2012 with New West Records; second, as The New Mercies, an electro funk project he left behind in Texas and would rather not talk about; and then, finally, as Heaven the Dude, an artist, producer and DJ now based in Los Angeles. Heaven’s current incarnation can be best described as a multimedia electronic jazz fusion onslaught punctuated by soulful songs about &quot;real shit&quot; (see <a href="spotify:track:4K7vuyplewRe9C5O7NmqDF" data-name="Get Your Hands Up">Get Your Hands Up</a>). The multi-hyphenated artist produces and mixes his music, but he’s most comfortable behind the guitar and bass, where he spent years refining a dual skill set: being a session musician in the R&amp;B and gospel worlds while being an avant-garde improviser with technical leanings. This left-field producer and musician flows freely between disparate worlds with an unbridled sense of joy.
