Heirloom

Heirloom, noun (C), a valuable object that has belonged to a family for several generations.

Heirloom is the instrumental ambient / post-rock project of guitarist and composer Tom Broshuis (Mister & Mississippi). From the urge to close a significant period in his life and bring an ode to his birthplace Groenlo, Tom wrote his debut album ‘Closure' in the empty rooms of the house where he grew up. The melancholy instrumental music recalls nostalgia and homesickness - but also sounds dreamy, hopeful and soothing.

On his debut album Tom worked with multiple musicians, like drummer Marcel van As (Spinvis, Copark), singer Tamara van Esch (Mevrouw Tamara, Kim Janssen) and cellist Jonas Pap (Eddie Vedder, Red Limo String quartet). The record is mixed by Simon Akkermans (C-mon & Kipsky, Binkbeats, The Great Communicators).

"I made the album to give closure to a rough year. The house where I spent my youth was up for sale, the loss of both my grandparents, the end of Mister and Mississippi and the feeling of failure made me sink deeper into a depression. The essence of this project became more and more important to me and I decided to put the music I made on an album. I regularly give it a listen because I know where it is recorded. It became an heirloom of my home and childhood in Groenlo.”

Heirloom did the support of Remy van Kesteren on his dutch clubtour in the weeks before the release. ‘Closure’ was released on May 31.
