"I was always making hits; they just weren't getting heard," says multi-platinum producer Helluva. The artist born Martin McCurtis laid the groundwork for Detroit's rap renaissance by producing and co-writing songs such as Tee Grizzley's "First Day Out" and breakthrough music for 42 Dugg and Sada Baby. It followed years of being the go-to producer in the Detroit underground. The veteran was fed up with his city being overlooked and underappreciated; "I felt it was time for us to make our own music to enjoy and support." In turn, he cultivated a dark and dynamic sound that eventually attracted stars from all over. Now, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black, Jeezy, and E-40 are just some who have sought out Helluva's beats.
