Jesper Hembo – Composer & Producer
Originality has always been the driving force behind Jesper Hembo. From his early days playing in family and high-school bands to the most ambitious project, Cottoncoats, the mission has always been the same: to create something truly unique. That commitment continues today in his work as a composer and producer.
Jesper performs or programs every instrument himself – including the vocals. He jokingly describes his musical style as Latin Rock: a blend of rhythmic energy, melodic pop and a touch of Latino spirit. For a while he called the genre Holiday music, until he discovered that the term is usually associated with Christmas music – definitely not the intention.
One of his personal favorites is "Easystreet". The song explores the idea of ultimate freedom: the dreamlike feeling of a perfect day on the beach in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria. But as the song unfolds, so does the illusion – endless idleness can lead to emptiness and mental collapse. The inspiration partly comes from Married with Children, where the character Jefferson dreams of “a long ride on Easystreet.” But is that really what we want? Jesper leaves the interpretation to the listener.
Many of Jesper’s songs are set in an exotic, vacation-like universe, where we momentarily slip into other people’s lives and experience the contrast between wannabe jetset dreams and real-world truths. Playful, melodic and always original.
