High Divide is an independent band from Seattle, WA made up of songwriters Forrest Gilchrist and Kevin Munro. The two began playing music together as teenagers in Sequim, WA and through the years have been in various bands in high school, college, and beyond. After graduating from WWU, both members moved to Seattle and quickly started playing live shows together at local breweries and bars.
After independently writing a handful of original songs the duo decided to name themselves after a song written about a backpacking trip they had made together in the Olympic mountains titled High Divide. In 2017 High Divide released their first album which was recorded in their home studio. The entirety of the album was written, recorded, produced, and mixed by the two musicians.
For the next couple years High Divide continued to play shows at various venues, festivals, and private events, frequently accompanied in various forms by friends and bandmates Josh Langland and Ben Phelps. They continued to write original music over the years and began the process of recording their second album in 2019.
What Follows, the band's second full length album was released on April 2, 2021. This album featured Phelps on drums throughout the album and Langland playing bass on Waiting For What Follows, Jaw Dropped, Waylaid, and At Least I Can Love You Today. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered both before and during the 2020 Covid 19 lockdown in the band's home studio.
