High Tides, an electronic duo consisting of Warren Kroll and Steven Lutes, make hazy, psychedelic chillwave, perfect for spending a cruel summer wasted on an endless California beach. With relaxed tempos, intricate beats, vocoders, and a slightly sinister undertone, they've been a natural fit for Tobacco's Rad Cult label, who have issued High Tides releases such as 2019's Paradise Daze.
Kroll and Lutes have participated in several ambient, IDM, and downtempo projects since the '90s, and have been releasing music together as the Red Falcon Projects since 2008, ranging from manic acid techno to warped synth pop. Their 2013 full-length Simply Ravishing featured cover artwork by Black Moth Super Rainbow leader Tobacco. The duo began their High Tides project in 2011, and their self-titled full-length was released by Rad Cult in 2015. The release featured the duo's remixes of four Tobacco songs. 7" single "Malibuds" followed in 2016, as the duo toured with Tobacco and Odonis Odonis. After High Tides shared a split single with Black Moth Super Rainbow in 2018, their second full-length, Paradise Daze, appeared in 2019. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
