The band was formed by keyboardist and primary composer Sergio Llopis in 2013. The Mallorcan based collective Highlands Project is currently one of the jazz bands with highest reputation in the Balearic Islands.
Highlands Project is a collective of sorts with as many as 10 members. The band has earned high praise from critical pages and websites from the country such as Enderrock, AraBaleares and TomaJazz.
Although still seen as an "underground" band their first album Skalanes topped the iTunes Jazz Charts in Spain.
Their 3rd album is a collaboration with different well known musicians of the island called Voiceover Vol.1. This album was nominated by Enderrock as "Best Jazz Album" in the Balearic Islands.
The band has always benefited from live performance due to the joy of performing together with all 10 components and collaborations, in the perpetual push to grow creatively.
In February 2021 the band released their latest studio album "Keepin' On".
