The product of chance encounters, cheap six-packs, and seamless songwriting, Highrise Nomad was a band from Austin, Texas. Combining edgy vocals, dynamite guitar licks, deep layered keys, and supported by groovy bass and gut-busting drums, the group came to fruition in the spring of 2019 when lead guitarist Sanket Mishra, lead singer Ben Cain, and drummer Jaakko Nurkka met through mutual connections. The three had prior experiences and varying levels of success in previous bands, including Cain's former Buffalo-based project Wild Things, but were looking to forge a new sound. The band fully formed and added versatility with the addition of keyboardist Miller Gill and bassist Matt Riley.
After only a few short months of playing together, they quickly found a groove with influences from Cage the Elephant, Young the Giant, COIN, Alabama Shakes, Hippo Campus, and Mt. Joy.
