hihi

As a pure rejection of the usual intent behind maximalism, hihi uses lush, hyper produced, and ultra detailed production to express a nuanced, emotional understanding of one’s self. The core of hihi’s music has stemmed from an anxious need to collage, using clashing genres as instruments in and of themselves. Sonically, it exists between the shining/muddled guitar riffs of shoegaze, low trunk rattling sub bass of memphis trap music, and brittle, candy sweet SOPHIE style synths that evoke a creature crawling out of the sludge. Each influence fights for breathing room to create a claustrophobic yet vivid illustration of an ultimately emotional goal. hihi explore themes of disillusionment, like incongruent understandings of ego, or simply feeling like there’s a second person hiding behind your skin.

As a mostly self taught multi instrumentalist, hihi started by learning guitar the wrong way (left handed), and moved on to attempting to fold that guitar into a larger soundscape. Above all else, the larger sentiment of hihi’s work has been translating an artists emotional statement, whether someone else’s or their own. Working with the likes of Ms. White, Moziah, Yourszlf, and Mau From Nowhere, hihi sought out to form connection and artistic realization between their collaborators and themselves.
