Calvin Isham is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, and songwriter from Rochester, NY.
In 2019, he released his streaming debut album, Sophomore Slump, which was written, recorded, produced, and self-released when Calvin was in high school. Influenced by Pop Punk artists such as Green Day and blink-182 as well as other influences such as The Beatles, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Weezer, the album has plenty of variety and material, but still proved to be a humble beginning for him, with its more lo-fi sound.
In 2020, after watching the movie Love And Mercy which details the life of Brian Wilson, Calvin became infatuated with early Beach Boys, and released his album Beach Life in 2021, which is a culmination of The Beach Boys sound with his regular influences such as blink-182 and Weezer. The album finishes with a 5-part song, laid out accross 5 different tracks, which was highly influcend by Jeff Rosenstock's WORRY. And The Beatles' Abbey Road.
Shortly after releasing Beach Life, Calvin wrote and demoed around 30 songs for his next project. Unsatisfied with the results, Calvin demoed almost every song multiple times before recruiting Upstate NY producer Kellen Hall to co-produce and record the album. The result was 2023's "YOU'RE AWFUL AT THIS". The album features plenty of organs, drum machines, strings, synths, and a more focused/pop-centric songwriting style that was influenced more heavily by The Beatles, Elliott Smith, and They Might Be Giants
