From Long Beach, CA, Hiram Torres is a new emerging face in the scene of alternative hip-hop. He is not afraid to take bold artistic risks and attempt things that have never been done before. While mostly being the brainchild of hip-hop, his influences are wide and extend further than music.
"I'll see a Goya painting and it'll teach me about selection. A painter must use his colors wisely like how I have to be meticulous with every sound I use in a beat, I can't pick just any snare or hat. Then you take into consideration the artists subjects. I can play guitar, but how does the guitar need to sound for the energy I'm trying to convey for that track. It's all relative. I'll watch a Luis Buñuel film and I'll learn a new outlook on an emotion I thought I understood. Now I have another point of view next time I write a song about that subject. It's even crazier when you start to see music more as vibes and energies. I stopped seeing genres as these boundaries, I just use them for labeling purposes. I like to listen to music that all have the same feel. I can play "Drive" by the Cars , "Ocean Drive" by 21 Savage and then "Always and Forever" by Heatwave and it would make sense, it's similar feelings and energies these songs give you just with different characters telling you their experiences. I think that's just what life's about for me right now, learning and being inspired. There's culture and influence everywhere you look. It's beautiful".
