“Hokum”
…sometimes referred to as “nonsense”…
…sometimes referred to as a “type of humorous blues”.
…sometimes referred to as the springy and robust sound of four-piece Reading-based rock band, that is of course Hokum. Ironically displaying “non-nonsense” blues-guitar grooves, cut throat lyrics and trippy synths, that is all tied together by the ambience of the late 60’s psychedelia. Unashamedly drawing an eclectic mix of classic rock influences, ranging from Pink Floyd to Black Sabbath, Hokum have interpreted their sound from (and in their words) “Dad’s Vinyl Collection”. Hokum are neither a stones throwaway from the more modern sounds of the Arctic Monkeys, Queens Of The Stone Age, and early Tame Impala, blending a colourful pastiche of the old and the new.
Since forming, Hokum have recorded two singles, the first being "Why The Long Face?" which was released on Friday 1st November 2019.
In spite of the current situation, Hokum have been working with UKLS to master their second single which is due for release on multiple streaming platforms on Friday 12th March 2021, with an engaging social media game of “Spell It Out” to go with it.
Hokum’s menacing manner, catchy lines, organic energy and undoubtedly British humour is certainly not to be sniffed at.
