Homescool is a father-daughter duo, with occasional guest performances by kids of other notable recording artists. Dan Epand is a multi-instrumentalist writer/producer/recording artist/director (also known for his membership in Nico Vega and TWWO), and Lennon is his 8-year old co-writer and front woman. During this last year of remote learning, whenever Lennon would hit burnout on her classwork, the two of them would channel those big feels into writing and recording music together—thus the band name Homescool.
Homescool’s music is topically often kid-centric (covering everything from lost cats, to Friday night plans, to Zoom birthdays), but the music and production has an edge and aesthetic suitable for commercial radio. This isn’t your stereotypical “kid’s music,” and parents and non-parents alike will find themselves listening with nary a kid in sight (think kids Yeah Yeah Yeah's as opposed to Kidz Bop).
