Smoke curls from a half-crushed pack, mixing with the sour breath of gin that clings to every cracked floorboard. Boots drag through mud-stained streets, chasing neon signs that flicker like promises too cheap to keep. The bayou hums low in the distance, a swamp lullaby under the buzz of cicadas and the clink of bottles.

Music leaks from open doors—steel guitars crying, voices rough as gravel—pulling the body from one bar to the next. Each stool feels the same: worn leather, sticky rings of spilled beer, ghosts of conversations that never mattered. Pockets stay light, but the night stays heavy, thick with smoke and sweat and the kind of laughter that cuts deep.

The rhythm of living here isn’t measured in hours, only in pours. A song starts up, slow and dirty, and boots tap against warped wood like they’ve got nowhere else to go. Outside, the bayou waits, black water swallowing moonlight, whispering that tomorrow will look just like tonight—another drink, another song, another shadow sliding through the smoke.
