Hooks is a hyper-stylized, electronic, alt-pop project. Their music is full of tasty hooks and carefully crafted delights that swirl in and out of different genres, synths, beats, and SFX. They communicate a sexy-coolness with their confident sound and visual production, lyrics, vocals, and striking colour palette – dominated by blues, reds, and blacks. Reminiscent of music from the late 90s to early 00s, they conjure up artists such as Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Groove Armada, DJ Spiller, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Morcheeba. Forever is their first single that tells the push-pull story of a relationship, paired perfectly with hip-swaying Latin rhythms, horns, synths, and beats. The Forever video is the first introduction to Hooks’ hyper-stylized world, complete with David Lynch – Mulholland Drive / Blue Velvet vibes. Each scene is a perfectly set visual feast – like an 80s Vogue magazine spread. Greek statues, mannequins, fruit, musical instruments, flowers, gifts, and a car are among the objects used in each scene. As the track progresses, it descends into quick-fire flashes of structured chaos – becoming more sci-fi when giant insects take over the set. The video is visually delicious and intriguing, complementing the catchy electronic-pop track, which is both innocent and sensual.
