Minneapolis-born indie-pop collective Hot Freaks—Leo Vondracek, Sarah Alfano, Cody Brown, and Celeste Heule—never expected to go viral. But when their jittery 2013 single “Puppy Princess” caught fire on TikTok in 2021, the band organically capitalized on the momentum, reuniting to release their sophomore album, Hot Freaks Forever.

Now fully functioning and more intentional than ever, the band answers the question of what comes after an unexpected revival with their vibrant album, Soft Body, set for release October 23, 2026. Written across state lines (spanning Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and South Dakota) and recorded back home in Minneapolis with longtime friends and collaborators, the record captured a "kids on vacation" energy.

Soft Body cleverly overlays melancholic, hopeful lyricism with brisk, high-energy melodies, bridging older, unreleased material with brand-new compositions. Exploring universal themes of romance, mental health, and unmet expectations, the tracks range from the explosive album opener “Darkest Of The Dark Night” to the handclapping, sneakily sensual “Soft Body Girl.”

From indie-pop upstarts to a rediscovered internet phenomenon, Hot Freaks' trajectory is unconventional, but Soft Body marks a rewarding new beginning. "If the universe is asking something, then that’s what I need to do," says Vondracek.
