Originally started in Chile circa 2017 as an homage to "reinventing Axel Rose" era Against Me, How to Burn Witches was born from an acoustic guitar, a four-track mixer app, and way too much time spent by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Caleb Heaphy in his bedroom during his late teenage years.
After growing out of angst-filled acoustic pop numbers, the project now embodies a desire to blend catchy lo-fi indie records with artistic experimentation. Inspired by artists like Father John Misty, Japanese Breakfast, Big Thief, and Fontaines D.C., HTBW aims to expand its sound through the use of 12-string acoustic guitars, fuzzy bass, ambient synths, and keys, while always keeping the hooks at the center of the songs.
Although birthed as a solo project, HTBW has since expanded its boarders to include various musical collaborators and band members: Gonzalo Muñoz, contributing guitars and production duties for the self-titled EP; Felipe Alonso on keys and guitar; and Tomás Contreras on bass.
This new chapter of the band will be kicked off with the release of the single "Try," an encapsulation of the "bedroom baroque pop" and "lo-fi indie ballads" that the Witches wish to create.
