Sunny warmth and a melancholy sense of empathy— Hugs, an emo quartet hailing from
Sydney, Australia, embrace all the connotations of their name.
Since their formation in 2021, Hugs have been polishing their sharp blend of delicately-crafted,
glisteningly beautiful Midwest emo and hook-infused, fist-pumping punk rock.
Consisting of vocalist Samantha Bowker, guitarist Tom Kelly,
bassist and backing vocalist William Lazarou, and drummer Daryl Crowley, Hugs move through
their sleekly-designed and deeply personal songs like a well-oiled machine, resulting in a sound
and feel that is as emotive and immediate as it is sticky and infectious.
Hugs originally grew out of a few chance meetings at house shows in Wollongong and Sydney.
Things moved rapidly from there: live shows ensued, and a single soon followed, with the
propulsive “Palpate” becoming the first taste of Hugs for many. Shortly following the release of
“Palpate,” Hugs were signed to the roster of Brisbane’s Team Glasses Records.
