Hüma Utku, hailing from Istanbul based in Berlin, is an electronic music composer and sound artist. Utku combines her musical practice with her academic studies in psychology through her works drawing inspiration from human condition, societal topics and nature of dualities. With an overall disregard for genres, she utilises melody and sound as tools for storytelling. Her 2018 EP 'Şeb-i Yelda' and her 2019 debut album 'Gnosis', through Karlrecords, earned Utku recognition for her unique approach to her musical storytelling. Her 2022 sophomore album ''The Psychologist'' was released by Editions Mego, which was cited as ‘ her most ambitious, authentic and complex work yet’ as a 'very singular artist'.
Since 2016, she has presented her work and performed across the world; including in Dark Mofo, Atonal Berlin, Weltmuseum Vienna, HKW Berlin, Salon IKSV Istanbul, Donaufestival, CTM Festival and Lunchmeat among many other festivals as well as cultural institutes.
Her work has received notable media from platforms such as The Wire, Noisey, RollingStone, Redbull Music, Groove Mag, Gonzo Circus, BBC Radio 3, RAI 3, ORF , Resonance FM and Sveriges Radio. In 2021, Utku has been selected as a SHAPE (Sound, Heterogeneous Art and Performance in Europe) artist.
