Hylan Starr is a singer and songwriter whose highly melodic contemporary R&B draws inspiration from the likes of Tevin Campbell, Usher, and Chris Brown. The Atlanta-based artist built a following in the 2010s with social media uploads, released his first commercial recordings toward the end of the decade, and went viral in 2020 with "Fool," his first single for the Universal-distributed Wolf Pack Global Music. He's since developed a brasher approach with recordings such as "Bitch You Is a Hoe," the Lil Baby collaboration "Don't Make Me Beg," and the slick Room to Grow EP (2024).
Originally from Tulsa, Starr became serious about music in his early teens. He used social media platforms to cultivate a following with covers of songs by August Alsina, Tyrese, and Khalid, among many other artists. His earliest proper releases included Dear RnB, a 2018 EP that included updates of Tevin Campbell's "Can We Talk" and Tyrese's "Sweet Lady." Starr's affiliation with Wolf Pack Global Music began with the viral 2020 hit "Fool," and continued with other singles such as "Bitch You Is a Hoe," the Sean Garrett-produced "Don't Make Me Beg," and the Wale-assisted "If Pretty Was a Person." He then joined the roster of Eric Bellinger's All Wins Entertainment label, and continued with the Bellinger collaboration "Overdrive" among a small batch of singles he released in 2023. The next year, another few stand-alone tracks led to the September release of Room to Grow, a six-track EP that combined previously released and new material. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
