<a href="spotify:artist:4Q8BhYWRTMLblS2zYs2315" data-name="I Am Not an Earth">I Am Not an Earth</a> is a music project by Long Island based producer and singer-songwriter Josh Freedman. Originally a side project, I am not an Earth slowly evolved into Josh's primary creative focus.
In 2020, I am not an Earth released it’s 4th record <a href="spotify:album:0xVA3MLB7agXbHTs5nBsUR" data-name="The Sun">The Sun</a>, a blistering 5 track EP co-produced by Steve Kupillas (<a href="spotify:artist:168dgYui7ExaU612eooDF1" data-name="Brand New">Brand New</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0lYVmNKXnsSRSrDcdhcJqD" data-name="NGHBRS">NGHBRS</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4Ray7XPQty5hrvIwaIHVPc" data-name="Coasta">Coasta</a>) The first of a music tryptic entitled “The Sun, The Vine, The Worm” The Sun is a deeply personal journey into the artist’s conflicts in spirituality, culture, and personal circumstance, viewed through the lens of a regrettable past. Heavily influenced by Freedman’s post-hardcore, punk, and emo roots, The Sun continues to develop a sound celebrated on previous I am not an Earth releases.
In the aftermath of a series of significant band breakups (Of Military and Mathematics, Here your Proud Waves Must Stop) Josh Freedman made his first release under the I am not an Earth moniker. 2009’s <a href="spotify:album:7v7hLLNgpbOKzRfgRNpv0t" data-name="Citizen">Citizen</a> co-produced by Joshua Silverberg (<a href="spotify:artist:0RNUFiiD25X0wWml4K44ni" data-name="Edison Glass">Edison Glass</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7FTEM6Uub5G2A33mZMWhPX" data-name="Hotel of the Laughing Tree">Hotel of the Laughing Tree</a>) was released to critical acclaim, but a return to performing in several bands (Our Own Ghosts, <a href="spotify:artist:4hka87QbYyqWAUtBQuhe5u" data-name="Lights Divide">Lights Divide</a>) would significantly delay his next release. Freedman returned in 2015 with the hastily self-produced and self engineered <a href="spotify:album:1cBEDWa9nSY4UQ8g0u0S41" data-name="V">V</a> marking the return of I am not an Earth. The following year Freedman released a re-imagined collection of older songs, called <a href="spotify:album:7nwoAsQFemDeWfNQwiNZq1" data-name="For You Were Made from Dust and to the Dust You Will Return">For You Were Made from Dust and to the Dust You Will Return</a>
