Formed in 2004, I Heart Lung are an exploratory free-form jazz duo comprised of guitarist Chris Schlarb (Create [!], Xn) and drummer Tom Steck. As I Heart Lung toured the States with Castanets and Wooden Wand & the Vanishing Voice, their debut album -- the heavily improvised Blood & Light -- was recorded in only three hours on a whim after one of their performances was canceled. They toured for a year before releasing their follow-up, I Heart Christmas, a five-song EP of free-form improvisations based loosely on Christmas carols -- also recorded quickly in one session. In 2007, Schlarb and Steck added Create (!) saxophonist Peter Chan for their live shows, which were recorded and released as Between Them a Forest Grew, Trackless and Quiet. That year, Schlarb released his first solo album using his actual name, Twilight & Ghost Stories, a sprawling disc that included over 50 collaborating musicians. In 2008, after signing to Asthmatic Kitty Records, I Heart Lung released Interoceans, which was followed by a remix album titled Interoceans Remixed. ~ Jason Lymangrover, Rovi
