Ibrahim Babayev is one of Azerbaijan’s most promising tar players and a contemporary musician based in Baku.
By blending the sound of the tar (Tar - traditional Azerbaijani instrument) with electronic samples, he has created innovative albums like vİBrant and MughaMix. His music transcends genres, weaving together elements of folk , electronic , and contemporary academic styles into a unique sonic landscape. Through this fusion of tradition and modernity, Ibrahim creates a harmonious dialogue between the past and future , resulting in timeless compositions.
Ibrahim has garnered numerous awards , including first place at the American Protegée International Competition , the Sounds of the Motherland competition in Tashkent , and the I Del Festival-Concorso Internazionale Delle Arti in 2017. In 2022, he was selected from hundreds of applicants for the prestigious 100 ARTISTS program, organized by the Swiss cultural organization Artlink in cooperation with the Sudkulturfonds . His compositions were also exhibited at the Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Ibrahim is winner of the EU4Culture mobility grant, funded by the European Union, in 2022.
He has performed internationally in countries including Turkey, Iran, Georgia, Albania, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Russia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, and Germany.
