Idan is an oud player and composer whose music blends tradition, exploration, and a deeply personal voice. His sound bridges the tradition of the Middle Eastern modal music - the maqam - with a modern approach, sensitivity and curiosity.
Born in Tel Aviv to a Moroccan father and a Danish mother, Idan grew up surrounded by both Eastern and Western influences. At 18, after several years studying classical and jazz guitar, he traveled to Morocco, where he bought his first oud - an instrument that soon became his main voice.
Over the years, Idan has studied with Jewish, Arab, and Turkish masters in Athens, Crete, and Jerusalem. At the Jerusalem Academy of Music, his mentor Naseem Dakwar (Bustan Abraham) encouraged him to write original music that reflects his own sound and story.
Since then, Idan has performed and recorded with a wide range of traditional and contemporary artists, including Ilana Eliya, Zohara, and Eliad . He has also composed music for theater (The Other Side) and dance performances (Saba D’Rouach).
Idan’s musical journey is an ongoing exploration inside and outside the middle-eastern tradition. a deep dive into its emotional landscape, while telling his own gentle, personal story through the harmonies and rhythms he’s absorbed and imagined. His unique oud playing uses new techniques, bass and harmonies, and his compositions weave together ancient, modern, and inner worlds into one evolving sound.
