The idea to start this project came after the Lahaina Fires decimated the hometown of vocalist Gavin Otsuka on 8/8/23. Needing a positive outlet to direct all of that anger & sadness from that tragic event, Gavin reached out to his longtime friend Josh Couture (Florida) to begin writing music for the digital project that would come to be known as Ikaika (the Hawaiian word for Strength). Two weeks into its humble beginnings, Josh unexpectedly passed away further adding another tragic blow to the intent behind Ikaika. After attending Josh's funeral shortly after, it was agreed between mutual friends to finish writing the demo to honor their fallen friend. This demo is not only a brutally honest, tear jerking expose of loss, hardship & personal struggle but also an unyielding display of hope, inner strength & perseverance!
