For the past 10 years I've been back into a creative & prolific period - lots of electronica, downtempo/chill, vocals, psychedelia, experimental pieces and several cover songs. I hope you enjoy!
Background: I came from a musical family. My grandmother played piano for a church. I’m not sure she knew how to read music, but we would sit together at the old upright and she would show me how to play a phrase or a song, and I would repeat it back. I never learned how to read music in the traditional sense. I have always played “by ear” but I did learn to read rhythm in high school from being a percussionist.
My grandmother and my mother were always singing. I was always singing. My mother taught my sister and me how to harmonize when I was about 6 years old. My dad gave me an acoustic guitar for my high school graduation. In college in the 70s I used to play chords I learned in song books and sing along.
In the ‘90s I acquired an analog sequencer, and figuring it out pretty much on my own, I used a MIDI keyboard and a double cassette deck to create early electronic music. I now find that stuff rather quaint, but it is part of my journey as a composer.
In the early ‘10s I revived my interest by getting a new keyboard, microphones and Logic software for my Mac. I also attended a local community college for the Audio Production program. I did a lot of composing & producing my own stuff during that period.
