ILEKTRA

ILEKTRA is an 18 year old Greek-Romanian artist and producer based in Bucharest, Romania. Classically trained, she has studied jazz, flamenco, traditional Greek music and classical music, absorbing influences not through formal obligation but through genuine interest, contributing to a sound that draws from multiple traditions without being anchored to any one of them. She began creating stories before she had the formal ability to write, inventing and narrating characters and worlds from early childhood. As she grew older her creative output expanded into theater and various other art forms. Because of her dual heritage, her childhood was marked by frequent transition and cultural displacement, yet storytelling and music remained the one constant across every move. Her mother is a painter, and the presence of visual art in her home is considered a foundational influence on her creative development. She has cited her upbringing in an artistic household as central to her understanding of expression as a way of life rather than a pursuit.
ILEKTRA has stated that she does not feel she chose music, but that music chose her, a distinction she considers meaningful, feeling a deep sense of protection over both her art and the path it has placed her on. She collaborates closely with her younger brother Thalis Karanasis, her primary production partner, the two having developed a creative process built on shared instinct and trust.
