Imaginary Friend

"Tell me, do you need a new companion?" What could be better than an Imaginary Friend - in this case, the musical project of the singer and songwriter Max Schäffer from Mainz. Whether playful and carefree or sometimes melancholic and lost in thought, all of the band's songs carry a comforting, airy lightness. In his lyrics, Max tells tales of the zeitgeist of the "Twentysomethings," sometimes with a wink: dating complications, childhood nostalgia, loss. Imaginary Friend speaks for a (wh)Y generation that seeks the "because."

Launched in August 2021, Imaginary Friend, initially a solo act, noticeably made a name for himself in Mainz in the following year. He appeared as an unconventional opener at the &#34;Grill &#39;Em All&#34; rock festival, supported <a href="spotify:artist:4jKf6qHaKjnuofSy7rXc91" data-name="Moritz Krämer">Moritz Krämer</a> Band at the Fenster zum Hof Open Air, and took part in the 150th-anniversary celebrations of Neustadt, sharing the stage with acts like <a href="spotify:artist:6abkP42tQNHGtJaYTr6Kzz" data-name="Sinu">Sinu</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6OOSL4Dipkuun3iRFvBEho" data-name="Hanne Kah">Hanne Kah</a>. In 2023, he continued his performances at the local level, appearing at festivals such as Lahneck Live and <a href="spotify:playlist:61U04LCaqsWrmgXAWupJhq" data-name="Trebur Open Air 2023 #toa31">Trebur Open Air 2023 #toa31</a>, supporting artists like <a href="spotify:artist:1GarejqGHyKM1adTFnB4NN" data-name="The Gardener &amp; The Tree">The Gardener &amp; The Tree</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:5nVbdvU60t7C0JBruxsS26" data-name="Maeckes">Maeckes</a> , and even venturing into their first international shows. Moreover, Max was one of five participants in the Pop RLP Masterclass, resulting in collaborations with producers like Andre Moghimi (<a href="spotify:artist:32icQ3y9495zedEztO2MFp" data-name="Fewjar">Fewjar</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5PWvuGOOLN5crtZjOt7lFC" data-name="Mhokomo">Mhokomo</a>)and Wolfgang Stach. Since the fall of 2023, Max has embarked on his musical journey as a four-piece band, bringing the surf-pop vibe to life as originally intended.
