Imox Jazz is a Central American jazz quartet, based in Guatemala City. The band consists of Víctor Arriaza (founder, pianist and arranger), Rosse Aguilar (vocals and saxophone), Luis Pedro Gonzalez (electric bass) and Kevin Escobar (drums). The band formed in 2004, being the result of hard bop, jazz fusion, neo-jazz, neo soul, Latin American music, flamenco and traditional Guatemalan music. The name IMOX comes from the Mayan culture and refers to the Nawal or protective spirit that represents the randomness, the chaos and the spontaneous, which is also interpreted as "man's will to create". Imox has represented Guatemala at various jazz festivals and stages in Central America, Mexico and the United States, thus becoming the benchmark for NeoJazz in the country. They recently performed in JEN Conference (Jazz Education Network 2023), an event that brings together the most prominent jazz educators and institutions in the United States and the world.
