Inna Kovtun is a leading authority on traditional Ukrainian folk music, master of music, folklore, ethnography, an ethno-singer, musicologist, songwriter, teacher, collector and researcher of ancient traditions and folklore.
She was the artistic director and leader of the folk band Rozhanytsia, the deputy general director of the Ukrainian Academic Municipal Brass Orchestra, and the soloist of the ethno-rock band "Astarta".
Inna has collected thousands of Ukrainian, Moldavian, Bulgarian and Tatar songs from research expeditions. She researched the history of the Ukrainian people, traditional rites, dances + fairy tales.
Inna’s performed concerts & taught workshops on Ukrainian folklore, folksongs and traditional dances in many European countries, as well as the Baltic countries, in Georgia, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Turkey, Israel, Canada and the US. Inna was the artistic director of the premier Ukrainian academic folklore, ethnographic ensemble Kalyna.
Shortly after the start of the full scale war, Inna came to the US to perform and teach in cities such as New York, San-Francisco, Minneapolis,Seattle, New Orleans, San Diego and more. She’s currently recording new music + performing at festivals and concerts. As a leader in Ukrainian culture Inna was inducted as an artist with the Oregon Folklife Network. Most recently Inna has been selected as a 2025 Taproot Artist Fellow for the recognition of accomplished traditional artists and culture bearers across the US.
