INSERT/AIRTIME is the musical project of Petar Mrdjen (born August 20, 1993) who grew up in an industrial town near Stockholm. His family emigrated from Yugoslavia to Sweden where he was surrounded by colourful and multicultural friends, a major source of the artist's inspiration. His earlier work were mired with noisy textures and experimental song structures. Usually spanning 30 min duration with ceaseless experimentation and physical modifications to his guitar.
Petar's first official release, <a href="spotify:album:6fD4CAFEkgGffDgz47u0oM" data-name="Sleepwalker">Sleepwalker</a>, came after he moved to Prague, Czechia. It is a prime example of his influences. Taking cues and sounds from video games of his childhood in <a href="spotify:track:3GbDaQlXSL9RznbyQPsy5h" data-name="Adventure_Credits">Adventure_Credits</a> to the industrial musings of <a href="spotify:track:3mE60cVStPK6bljaZG7dRh" data-name="Zeus">Zeus</a>. His inspiration comes from groups like <a href="spotify:artist:1GhPHrq36VKCY3ucVaZCfo" data-name="The Chemical Brothers">The Chemical Brothers</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0X380XXQSNBYuleKzav5UO" data-name="Nine Inch Nails">Nine Inch Nails</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:4Z8W4fKeB5YxbusRsdQVPb" data-name="Radiohead">Radiohead</a> who encouraged him to seek deeper outside of his musical safe space.
Whilst working on <a href="spotify:album:6fD4CAFEkgGffDgz47u0oM" data-name="Sleepwalker">Sleepwalker</a> he sought to discover more about the essence of sound, field recording and psychoacoustics. His music was a passion which resided on the side of his regular job in film. Where his soundtracks would manifest on bigger and bigger projects but they would drift further away from his current style. A sound which is becoming more energetic and direct.
The upcoming album EXCESS spans many genres like Krautrock, Techno, even Reggae. Each mood telling a story of finding yourself far from home with people your mum warned you about, a place that is your own.
