I started this project in mid 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic was raging, a lockdown was in effect, protests against government regulations and guidelines occurred on a daily basis, and here I was trying to ignite a spark of my own.
The creative process is something that continues to intrigue (and at times, baffle) me: I had a clear outline regarding the music I wanted to create, the overall vibe and style, yet what came out is both completely different and exactly what I envisioned at the same time.
I set out to do away with 'typical' song structures, both from a rhythmic and tonal perspective. I wanted the listener to be on the edge of the seat at all times, never knowing what to expect. I wanted to use the guitar in a less tonally dominant role than was common in extreme music, instead focusing on the rhythmic and percussive aspects of the instrument. I wanted to break with extreme metal tradition by having a more dominant role for synthesizers, exploring evolving rhythmic and tonal patterns to see how far I could push the envelope.
Last but not least, I wanted to do everything myself.
The result lies before you, I hope you enjoy this as much as I did creating it.
Tobias
