Born and raised in one of the most multicultural neighbourhoods in Toronto, ISHAMERE (pronounced EYE·SHA·MERE) is an eclectic artist dedicated to affecting, reflecting and growing with the collective. She does this through several mediums, mainly singing, songwriting and acting.
Forever referencing her love for her Jamaican and Nigerian roots, her fondness for her early 2000’s childhood and her reverence for the 90’s Hip Hop and R&B she grew up hearing her parents play - her music can be described as a seamless and melodic mashup of Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Rock, Soul & Reggae.
This results in a moody and multifaceted sound that is somehow both nostalgic and futuristic; romanticizing the moment you are currently in while giving several nods to the past.
With an innate belief that she is “here to make you feel things” and an instinctual need to release and connect via creative expression, ISHAMERE'S songwriting is decidedly and relentlessly emotional. Sometimes embarrassingly vulnerable. Equally as progressive and provocative, she uses her life experiences and lyricism to dance with the unmentionable; aiming to connect through shared experiences and as a result validate shared emotions.
She hopes to provide, in any capacity, what she is always seeking herself - a feeling of being understood.
