Isla Scott is a singer-songwriter from the Isle of Harris, based between home and Glasgow. At only nineteen she is already making her mark on Gaelic music, composing original songs unlike anything the scene has heard before. Collecting stories and souvenirs of sound wherever she goes, her lyrics are inspired by her experience of growing up on a Scottish island and moving to the city for the first time.
Her aim? Simply to allow the Gaelic language to become an authentic part of the young Gael’s everyday life. She’s convinced there’s no better way to preserve the language for generations to come than through music – music that resonates with and reflects the typical teenage islander experience.
Between local festivals and mainland support slots, Isla is helping Gaelic find its voice in a 21st-century music scene. In turn, it’s helping her find hers too.
