From the humble village of KwaFuduka in Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal, emerges a powerhouse of talent the dynamic twin duo known as Istimela Samawele. Comprised of Bhekizizwe Thandokuhle Phakathi and Bhekozayo Thandoluhle Phakathi, these gifted brothers are the new heartbeat of Maskandi, fusing tradition with fresh creativity and youthful energy.
Growing up, the twins were deeply inspired by Maskandi legends such as Mtshengiseni “Indidane” Gcwensa and Mroza Fakude, whose music shaped their early dreams. Their journey began in the classrooms of Nkwambazi Primary School and continued at Baqulusini Secondary School, where their shared passion for music started to bloom.
Their official debut came on 26 September 2025 with the release of the hit single “Cognac,” featuring renowned artists Gatsheni and Q Twins. The track instantly announced their arrival, blending soulful harmonies, heartfelt storytelling, and a modern Maskandi sound that captured the attention of fans across South Africa.
